We are pleased to be able to provide several braces treatment options to choose from, including traditional metal braces and clear or ceramic braces. Braces are a “tried and true” and effective way to correct a wide range of bite problems, applying a gentle and continuous force across the teeth to guide them into their proper position. Their proven results are able to treat even the most complex of orthodontic cases. Metal braces have been used for decades and remain a popular choice for patients, while modern advancements in both materials and techniques have led to additional treatment options to choose from, including clear or ceramic braces and metal braces.

A modern approach to orthodontic treatment, Invisalign® clear aligners offer teenagers and adults a more discreet way to straighten their smiles. Clear aligners are custom made for each patient, so no two aligners are alike. The aligners are made of a medical-grade thermoplastic material that is smooth and comfortable, and each aligner is laser cut for a precise fit over the teeth and gums. Patients will move through the series of aligners as prescribed by Dr. Mary Ritter to achieve a beautiful, healthy smile. Invisalign® clear aligners are removable, which promotes excellent oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment. However, aligners will need to be worn approximately 22 hours a day for optimum results.

At Commerce Park Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics, we recommend custom-made mouthguards for children and teens who participate in high contact sports. Custom mouthguards are made using your child’s unique dental impressions to ensure an exact fit. They are formed using a soft, but durable plastic material designed to protect and cushion the teeth, lips, cheeks and tongue. Mouthguards are worn to prevent or reduce oral trauma to teeth and gums as it relates to injuries that may occur during high-contact sports. For patients with braces or other orthodontic appliances, a custom mouthguard provides essential protection without interfering with ongoing treatment.

When your orthodontic journey is nearing completion, our team at Commerce Park Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics will begin to discuss the options for the retention phase of treatment. We offer two types of removable retainers, the Hawley and the Essix, as well as a fixed retainer option that is bonded to the lingual side of the lower front teeth. Retainers are essential after orthodontic treatment because they ensure the longevity and stability of the newly aligned teeth. While it is normal for teeth to naturally shift and move back into their original position after orthodontic treatment, we want to prevent this relapse for as long as possible.

As a pediatric dental and orthodontic practice, our team is devoted to your child’s oral health. One of the most important parts of oral health is learning how to care for your teeth. We offer an age-appropriate guided approach designed to evolve and become the oral health routines that you keep for a lifetime. A true orthodontic emergency is rare. However, there are some instances during orthodontic treatment which may require a repair visit. Brackets or bands can become loose or pop off, and we will need to repair these in a timely manner so your orthodontic treatment can continue to be effective. The best way to prevent orthodontic problems or emergencies is to avoid certain foods that can damage your braces.
